Properlift

PROPERLIFT

Mobile application prototype that provides users a way to learn adequate techniques of lifting weights with video tutorials built within the system.

Tools: Figma, Miro

Role: UX Designer and Researcher

Timeline: Two weeks

THE PROCESS

I wanted to understand to create a product that was specific to help my colleague to begin a a change in her lifestyle.

I continue to perform an interview to be able to understand her pain points and work into creating a solution to solve her needs.

She expressed interest in learning how to workout properly to avoid injuries and maximize results.

INTERVIEWS

I conducted 5 interviews with different users that enjoy working out, in order to gather more information on their wants and needs when it comes to lifting weights.

Key Findings:
  • Users wanted to begin working out but did not know how to perform the exercises properly
  • Because of the pandemic it was hard to find a coach in person because the gyms were closed
  • Users enjoy working out to feel great about themselves

PERSONA

I created a persona to identify the target audience's wants, needs, and frustrations.

This persona allowed me to empathize with the users and get insights that led me to brainstorm possible solutions.

IDEATION

After I synthesized the research I began to hand sketch screens to discern the best solution to resolve the problem.

Through this process I created a mobile application with various features that allows the users to learn how to workout in a proper and safe manner.

Mid Fidelity Wireframes

I utilized Figma to translate the hand sketches into a mid fidelity prototype.

The prototype allowed me to perform usability testings to find out how clear it was for the users to navigate through the app.

USABILITY TESTS

I performed four usability tests with users from different backgrounds that are indeed workout enthusiasts, and to broaden my audience two of them are Spanish speakers.

Quotes:
“Oh! I can choose how many squats I want to do.”

“Is that video to show you how you’re supposed to do the workout?”

“Ahorita solo quiero cardio para empezar!”

“Veo los sets, las repeticiones, y las libras que podría levantar.”

NEXT STEPS

I gathered all the insights from the usability tests and to make the experience better for Properlift these steps have to be implemented:

  • Update the exercise library to include more workout options
  • Create the option to update the languages for users who do not speak English

PROJECT IMPACT

The requirements for the project was to deliver a medium fidelity prototype. After ten weeks of the immersive course I decided to go back and refine the prototype with the knowledge acquired in the course, to be able to present it in the case study.

This project is a life changing for me. I came to this field from a background of the military and mechanical design, and I was having the impostor syndrome.

I did not feel that I belong on the creative field, but completing this project and presenting it gave me the confidence that I needed, and also inspired me to learn more and work harder in order to be successful in this field.
